When you care about someone, you can't just turn that off because you learn they betrayed you. - Paula Stokes
"Murdock, I really don't need to hear it again. Really."
"But, Face, I just - "
"Hey!"
Murdock stopped, eyes wide, almost like he expected a blow to follow.
"Look, I know I was really, really angry at first. Okay? At first. And I said some stuff I didn't really mean. I know you didn't intend it to end up like it did. You made a judgement call based on what you knew and when you knew it. At best, it was well-intentioned. At worst, it was just a mistake. We're all human. So, please - PLEASE - stop apologizing. Stop trying to make it up to me. Okay?"
Murdock sighed. "Okay."
"So we're good now, right?"
The pilot smiled. "Yeah, okay."
"Hey, Murdock - wanna play some pool?"
A last look at Face, and Murdock trotted away. "I'm gonna whup your butt, Frankie! Again!"
Face smiled, shaking his head. He hoped Murdock would actually stop apologizing now. It was getting tiresome. Especially when Face didn't really like lying to him.
Forgiveness, he could do. Forgetting?
Not so much.
